High Performance Program

Level I Clinic

Our one-day clinic is the entry level to the Carolina Region High Performance Program.  We will do some testing that will allow you to chart your progress as well as compare yourself to players your age across the country.  We will also teach you some of the National Team training techniques and put you through drills, controlled scrimmages and games.

Tryout Goals

  1. Be a positive learning experience for all.
  2. See who is an adaptive learner (how do you respond when a coach gives instruction).  This assists us in comparing athletes who are skilled but not as athletic with athletes who are athletic but not as skilled.
  3. Select the best athletes for involvement at the next level.

What are looking for in National level volleyball athletes?

  1. Athleticism.
  2. Technique.
  3. Strength.
  4. Confidence and leadership.
  5. Aggressiveness.
  6. Ability to learn and improve.
  7. Vision and reaction.

What are some goals that you should be working towards?

  1. Improve in skills everyday.
  2. Improve physical conditioning.
  3. Improve skills in being a team player (making the people around you better players).

What happens next?

  1. We have several other clinics like this one around the region (the last one is in February). 
  2. Once we have seen the athletes at these clinics, we will decide which athletes to invite to train with us at the next level (joining the athletes who were identified last year). 
    1. We will have a training weekend in April. 
    2. We will have a competition in May. 
    3. We will have a 4 day camp in June.
  3. We will take 12 players on each team (USA Select, Youth and Junior) to the U.S. High Performance Championships in July.
