Camp Philosophy

There are basically three types of camps – “Developmental”, “Elite” and “Headliner”.

Our camps are “Developmental” because emphasis is on (1) individual skill improvement, (2) maximum number of ball contacts, (3) motivation, (4) consistent skill instruction and (5) quality time with each player (less skilled to the most skilled).  Basic skills and fundamentals will be the focus of the camp experience.  Homogenous grouping (based on the current skill level of each participant) is done so that the sessions can be designed to meet the needs of the players for ultimate progress.

We are not a “Headliner”, where name coaches and/or players are advertised and come in for a day or part of a day for presentations without personally working with the campers for the full camp experience.

Likewise, we are not an “Elite” camp where we purport to identify the selected players and then devote the majority of court time to scrimmage situations.  We do group campers by skill level to assist coaches in planning sessions where their main concern is personalized skill development for every player.

Coaches

In addition to our camp directors, we will have experienced college, club and high school coaches as well as college players as our staff.  Players will have a session with each skill coach every day and will have an additional session with their selected position each day as well.

Position Skills and Position Specialization

Each group (MS, JV & V) will spend time each morning with each of the skill coaches, developing a well-rounded game.  In addition, players will spend additional time each morning with the skill coach of their 1st choice position.  Each afternoon will focus on applying the individual skills to the team concept with drills, scrimmages and matches.  They will be assisted by additional staff selected from area college coaches, club coaches, high school coaches and college players.

Middle School Players

This section is for players with no experience to a year or two of experience who are interested in learning the game and preparing for their middle school season.

We will help players develop the skills of passing, setting, attack, serving, blocking and defense.  Emphasis is placed on learning court movement, ball control, “reading opponents”, timing, as well as game competition and position specialization.

Players will do skill work in stations with application of skills in game situations (doubles, triples, quads and sixes).

Varsity & Junior Varsity Players

These sections are geared to high school boys and girls who are rising 9th graders through Seniors (younger players with 2 years JO volleyball or middle school team experience will be considered).  Players will be divided into Varsity and JV groupings according to their playing experience and skill level.

We will help the players fine tune the skills of passing, setting, attack, serving, blocking and defense.  Emphasis is placed on learning court movement, ball control, “reading opponents”, timing, as well as game competition and position specialization.
